Getting to Agreement

I had an interesting talk with a client one day which brought up a situation that seems universal for some service providers, particularly people new to running a service business. He was in a state of agitation and showed all the signs of a man frustrated "to the max."

His situation was simple. He'd been by asked by a client to work on a problem until a solution was found. The client seemed very concerned about the problem, so my client took the initiative and worked on it overnight. When he came back the other day and offered it, his client thanked him and didn't take any action on it.

And that's when his unsettling feeling set in. Over the next few days my client got progressively disturbed at the inaction of his client. The effort that he made initially was not paying off. And there was not an indication in sight of a decision being made.

So my client sat before me with an expression of exhaustion. I'd recognized that this was not the first time he had experienced this. Wearier this time even more than before, he was open to some suggestions.

We looked at what caused the turn of events. We evaluated the way he went about obtaining the agreement for the job and the work that was to be done. And during that discussion, we discovered a pattern that caused his current situation.
