Good Lookin'

There's an interesting thing that occurs when someone is asked how important eye-contact is to building relationships. It's not that they stress the importance that makes the occurrence so interesting though. It's the side comments regarding the reasons behind why the contact is not made that raise an eyebrow.

I don't think that many would argue about the importance of eye-contact in forming and maintaining relationships. It's commonly understood that eye-contact is one of the indicators of how people are relating to each other. The timing of the glances, the staring, the focus and the blink rate all impact the communications of the relationship.

Even the eye shuttling that occurs is important in the eye etiquette. Most people don't know about it. They don't realize that shuttling is a way of showing respect for the other party and gives "eye breathers" to all involved.
